Quiles and Alonso in Assen — highlights
The TT Circuit Assen hosted another fast and intense round of MotoGP 2026. Máximo Quiles won for the sixth time in the Moto3 season and was accompanied on the podium by Marco Morelli. In Moto2, David Alonso took his first victory of the year by the narrowest of margins.
In Moto3 training, Morelli and Quiles were easily in the top ten. The search for aspiration and references on the track made positioning a strategic decision. Quiles left the fast lap until the end of Q2 and took his third pole position of the year. Morelli qualified fourth, less than half a second behind.
The race had 20 laps. The initial group of twelve drivers was whittled down to five podium contenders as pace and tire wear made the selection. Quiles and Morelli remained well positioned for the last laps.
Quiles attacked with three laps to go and beat David Almansa, taking his ninth podium in the first ten races and a 90-point lead in the championship. Morelli increased his pace in the second half and finished third, moving up to fifth in the standings. CFMOTO Aspar led the standings of the thirteen teams.

Quiles highlighted the meaning of winning in a historic circuit that he followed on television. He saved his energy at the beginning, attacked at the right time and managed to open up an advantage, thanking the public for their support.
Morelli described a very difficult race. After a good start, he suffered vibrations at the front and loss of grip. He adapted his driving style, regained his rhythm and achieved a podium that he considered unlikely, thanking the team for their trust.
In Moto2, Alonso was looking to overcome the frustration of Brno, where he had led every lap until the last corner. He was fastest on Friday and secured his second consecutive pole position on Saturday. Holgado qualified fifth for the 22-lap race.
Sunday was dry and slightly cooler than previous days, when temperatures exceeded 35 degrees. Alonso maintained consistency in the winning group. Holgado had more difficulties and received a long lap penalty for exceeding track limits when he was in fifth, finishing sixth.
Alonso battled for victory with two opponents and overtook Manuel González on the outside at the last chicane. He won by just 0.024 seconds, moving up to fourth place in the championship. Holgado was in sixth place and CFMOTO Aspar Azul Marino was second among the fourteen Moto2 teams.
Alonso declared that he could not believe in victory. After struggling throughout the season, he tried to enjoy the race and give the best to the team and the people who support him. In the last laps, he felt the Moto3 style of competition again and took victory in the last corner.
